What You're Actually Buying

A "website design" can mean very different things. Most people think it's just how the site looks. It's not.

When you hire a web design company, you're paying for:

  • Visual design — layout, colors, fonts, how pages look on phone and desktop.
  • User experience (UX) — how easy it is to find things, place an order, or contact you.
  • Front-end code — HTML, CSS, JavaScript that runs in browsers.
  • Back-end setup — servers, databases, security, hosting configuration.
  • CMS or platform — WordPress, Shopify, custom code, or something else that lets you edit your site later.
  • SEO basics — page titles, descriptions, site speed, mobile optimization.
  • Testing — checking that forms work, payment goes through, pages load fast.

A cheap quote usually means shortcuts on one or more of these. You find out later when your site loads slowly, doesn't work on mobile, or your developer vanishes.

Real Price Ranges in Hyderabad

Hyderabad has a competitive web design market. Prices vary wildly based on complexity and who's doing the work.

₹15,000–₹40,000: Basic Website (Template-Based)

This is typically a WordPress site built on a pre-made theme, or a site builder like Wix or Webflow. The designer customizes an existing template with your colors, logo, and content. You get 5–8 pages, basic contact form, maybe a blog section.

What you don't get: Custom code, advanced features, sophisticated user experience. You're limited by the theme's capabilities.

Good for: Small shops, service businesses (plumbers, electricians, consultants), local restaurants, nonprofits on a tight budget.

Time to launch: 2–4 weeks.

₹50,000–₹1,50,000: Standard Custom Site

This is a WordPress site with a custom design built on top (not just a theme), or a custom-coded site using a framework. Includes 10–15 pages, custom animations or interactions, blog with categories, contact forms with validation, maybe basic e-commerce (up to 50 products).

What's included: Original design, mobile optimization, Google Analytics setup, GST-compliant invoicing templates, WhatsApp Business integration options.

What you don't get: Advanced integrations (SAP, complex accounting systems), high-volume e-commerce, sophisticated membership systems.

Good for: Most local and regional businesses, small e-commerce stores, agencies selling services.

Time to launch: 4–8 weeks.

₹1,50,000–₹5,00,000: Advanced Custom Build

Fully custom-coded site with complex features. Could include: large product catalog (500+ items), custom admin dashboard, integration with Razorpay or PayU for payments, inventory management, UPI payment options, email automation, CRM features, multi-vendor setup.

What's included: Professional UX audit, multiple design iterations, extensive testing, performance optimization, security hardening, training for your team.

What you don't get: Enterprise-scale infrastructure, 24/7 on-call support (unless separately contracted).

Good for: Regional e-commerce chains, SaaS platforms, logistics companies, fintech startups, marketplaces.

Time to launch: 10–16 weeks.

₹5,00,000+: Enterprise / Fully Custom

Everything custom, including architecture. Might include: custom CRM, complex integrations with ERP systems, high-security requirements, ability to handle millions of transactions, custom mobile apps, multi-language support, dedicated team.

Time to launch: 4–12 months.

Good for: Large corporations, banks, government portals, hospital networks.

The Hidden Cost: Ongoing Maintenance

A website is not a one-time purchase. After launch, you have:

  • Hosting: ₹500–₹5,000 per month depending on traffic and features.
  • Domain name: ₹500–₹2,000 per year.
  • SSL certificate: Often free with hosting, or ₹2,000–₹10,000 per year.
  • WordPress/plugin updates: If your agency charges per update, budget ₹5,000–₹15,000 per year for monthly maintenance.
  • Security backups: ₹2,000–₹10,000 per year.
  • Content updates: If you can't do it yourself, ₹1,000–₹5,000 per update depending on complexity.

Ask the web design company upfront: What's included after launch, and what costs extra? Some quote only the build. Others include 3–6 months of free support. Neither is wrong, but you need to know.

Freelancers vs. Agencies vs. In-House

Freelancer (₹15,000–₹2,00,000)

Pros: Cheaper. Often faster. You work with one person who knows your site inside out.

Cons: Vanishes on holiday or illness. No backup if they're sick or busy. No recourse if work is poor. Hard to scale if you need big changes later.

Risk: Moderate to high. Depends entirely on the individual.

Small Agency (₹50,000–₹5,00,000)

Pros: Someone's always available. A team can handle complex projects. They're usually reachable for issues. They've done hundreds of sites, so they know what works.

Cons: More expensive than freelancers. Quality varies widely even within the same agency. You get assigned a junior designer sometimes, even if you paid for senior work.

Risk: Low to moderate if the agency has been around 3+ years and has references.

Large Agency (₹2,00,000+)

Pros: Professional process. Dedicated account manager. You can sue them if they disappear. Probably good quality control.

Cons: Much more expensive. Slower (more meetings, approvals). You're one of many clients.

Risk: Very low, but unnecessary for most small businesses.

Hire In-House (₹3,00,000–₹8,00,000 per year)

Pros: You own the person and the work. They know your business inside out. No communication delays.

Cons: You pay them every month even during slow periods. Hiring, HR, benefits are your job. Hard to find good web developers in Hyderabad — competition is intense.

Best if: You have ongoing, constant design and development needs. Most small businesses don't.

Red Flags When Choosing

  • No portfolio or case studies. If they can't show you past work, why not?
  • Quote with no discovery. Good agencies ask questions first. If someone quotes a price in 30 seconds, they're guessing.
  • "We build everything in 7 days." Possible for very simple sites. For anything real, suspect.
  • Promises about Google rankings. No one can guarantee you'll rank #1. It depends on competition, backlinks, your content, and Google's algorithm.
  • No maintenance plan or it's weirdly cheap. "Free updates forever" usually means they're gone in 6 months.
  • Using a template and charging custom prices. Ask: "Is this a theme or fully custom code?" There's nothing wrong with themes, but price accordingly.
  • Can't explain how they'll collect payment. For e-commerce, understand: Razorpay or PayU? Both? Which costs less? Does it integrate with your accounting?
  • No one's reachable after you sign. Project manager vanishes. Designers change. You're stuck.

Questions to Ask Before Signing

  1. "Can you show me 3 live sites you've built in the last 12 months, in a similar industry?" Look at them yourself. Are they fast? Do forms work? Do they look professional?
  2. "What happens after launch? What's included for free, and what costs extra?" Get this in writing. Include: hosting, backups, security updates, content updates, bug fixes.
  3. "How do you handle payment if I'm selling online? What are the transaction costs?" Razorpay charges ~2% + ₹3 per transaction. PayU is similar. Ensure it's clear upfront.
  4. "Can I edit the site myself, or do I always need you?" If it's WordPress, you should be able to add blog posts and change text. If it's fully custom, you might be dependent on them.
  5. "What if I want to move to a different host or switch companies later?" They should say: "You own all the code and content." If they hedge, walk away.
  6. "How will Google Business Profile, WhatsApp Business, or local SEO be handled?" Many small designers ignore this. It's actually important for local businesses.
  7. "What's your cancellation policy if I'm unhappy?" Ideally: 50% refund if you cancel in the first 2 weeks, nothing if you cancel after launch.
  8. "Who owns the design, code, and content?" You should own everything. Full stop.

Get all answers in a written proposal, not just verbal promises.

Bottom line: There's no single "best" website design company in Hyderabad. The best one for you is the one that understands your business, explains things clearly, charges fairly for what you need (not what they can sell), and will be reachable next year. A ₹50,000 site built right beats a ₹2,00,000 site that looks beautiful but doesn't work.
