What you're actually paying for
When someone quotes you for an ecommerce store, they're not quoting you for a website. They're quoting you for the combination of these things:
- The platform (Shopify, WooCommerce, custom code, etc.)
- Design and layout
- Payment gateway integration (Razorpay, PayU, etc.)
- Inventory and order management setup
- Basic SEO and Google Business Profile setup
- Testing and launch
- Handover and training
Some companies throw in post-launch support. Some don't. Some will charge you extra per month just to keep it running. This is where costs hide.
Before you talk to anyone, ask yourself: do you want to own the store yourself and make changes, or do you want the developer to manage it for you? That answer changes the price and the type of developer you need.
Pricing ranges in Raipur
Here's what you can realistically expect to pay in Raipur in 2026:
Basic store (under 50 products, one payment method): ₹30,000 to ₹80,000. This is Shopify with basic theme customization, Razorpay integration, and someone to set it up. You manage it yourself after launch. Good for testing whether ecommerce works for your business.
Standard store (50–200 products, multiple payment methods, WhatsApp integration): ₹80,000 to ₹2,50,000. Custom theme, multiple integrations, some inventory management, basic analytics setup. The developer might include 3–6 months of minor support. This is the most common range.
Advanced store (200+ products, inventory sync, custom workflows, subscription features): ₹2,50,000 to ₹6,00,000+. Usually built on WooCommerce or custom code. Includes inventory management, order automation, CRM integration, detailed testing. Longer timeline (2–4 months). Post-launch support is usually monthly (₹5,000–₹15,000).
Full enterprise (multi-vendor marketplace, complex rules, heavy integrations): ₹6,00,000 and up. These are semi-custom builds. Months of planning and development. Not relevant unless you're already doing significant sales.
These are ballpark figures. Your actual cost depends on what you actually need, not what the developer thinks sounds impressive.
Types of developers available in Raipur
Individual freelancers. Usually ₹15,000–₹50,000 per project. Fast turnaround if the person is reliable. Risk: they disappear after launch, or take months longer than promised. No company structure to fall back on. Good if you know them personally or have a strong reference.
Small agencies (2–5 people). Usually ₹40,000–₹2,00,000 per project. More structure than freelancers, but still flexible. You'll know the owner personally. Problem: they juggle multiple projects and timelines slip. Good if you don't mind waiting and you want fair pricing.
Mid-size web companies (5–20 people). Usually ₹1,00,000–₹5,00,000+. Proper project management, dedicated support team, some warranty on bugs. You'll work with an account manager, not the owner. They're selling you a process, not a relationship. Can be slow to decide or adapt. Good if you need consistency and have a real budget.
Out-of-state or offshore companies. Often cheaper on paper (₹30,000–₹1,00,000), but communication is harder, timezone issues, quality varies wildly. Only choose if you've worked with them before or have a strong referral.
Raipur has real talent. You don't need to go to Mumbai or Delhi. But you do need to choose the right type for your situation.
Red flags and what to avoid
"We'll use WordPress and a plugin." Some things don't belong on WordPress. Complex inventory, high traffic, strict security. If your store is bigger than 100 products or you need custom features, WordPress + WooCommerce often becomes expensive later (maintenance, security, plugins that break). Not always bad, but ask why WordPress specifically.
"Unlimited revisions, we'll make it perfect." This never ends well. Good companies limit revisions (usually 2–3 rounds) and charge extra for more. If they promise unlimited, someone's going to lose money and get frustrated.
"We'll handle all your marketing too." Building the store and marketing it are different skills. Developers who claim to do both usually do one okay and one badly. Pay for what you need separately.
"₹10,000 for a complete store." Not possible for real work. This usually means copy-pasting a template, zero customization, and you'll rebuild it in six months. Ignore these offers.
No contract or timeline. If they won't write down the scope, price, and deadline, walk away. Miscommunication is guaranteed.
No examples of past work, or examples that look like each other. Check their portfolio. If every site looks the same, they're using the same template for everyone. Not always bad, but you should know that going in.
Questions to ask before hiring
Do I own the store after you deliver it? You should own the store, the domain, the code (if custom), and the data. If they say "you can't touch it" or "you need to hire us to maintain it," that's not ownership.
What happens after launch? Do they give you 30 days of free bug fixes? Who fixes things if something breaks after that? Do they charge per hour or per month? Get this in writing.
What platform are you using and why? Should be a real answer, not "everyone uses Shopify." Shopify is good for many things. So is WooCommerce. So is custom code. It depends on your business.
How long will it take? From signing the contract to going live. Honest answer is usually 4–8 weeks for a standard store. If they promise 2 weeks, either they're using a template (nothing custom) or they're being optimistic.
What if I need to add 50 more products next month? Is that easy or expensive? If you're building something rigid, it'll hurt you later.
Can I see a contract from previous clients? (Obviously with names removed.) If they won't show you their terms, they don't have standard terms. That's risky.
Do you have references I can call? Not testimonials on your website — actual past clients you can reach. And call at least two.
Common mistakes Raipur businesses make
Choosing based on price alone. Saving ₹50,000 now by hiring the cheapest developer often costs ₹2,00,000 later when you rebuild because it doesn't work. Price matters, but it's not everything.
Not thinking about hosting and domains. Your developer quotes ₹1,50,000 for the store but doesn't mention hosting. Hosting costs ₹500–₹3,000 per month depending on traffic and platform. Budget for this separately.
Wanting "something like Amazon" but with their budget. Amazon's ecommerce system costs hundreds of crores. You can't have that for ₹2,00,000. Be realistic about scope. "Like Amazon" for Raipur usually means: search, filters, reviews, wishlist, order tracking. That's reasonable. Multi-vendor marketplace with AI recommendations is not.
Not planning for payment methods.** GST, UPI, credit card, debit card — these matter. Make sure your store supports all of them. Razorpay handles most of this easily. Verify it's integrated before you sign.
Ignoring mobile. 80%+ of your customers will browse on phone. If your store is slow or broken on mobile, it won't work. Test it yourself before launch.
Thinking ecommerce solves sales problems. A beautiful store without customers is a beautiful waste. You still need to market it, build email lists, run ads, get Google Business Profile reviews. The developer's job is the store. Your job is getting people to it.
How to make a decision
Get three quotes. Not ten — three. From the types of developers you're considering (freelancer, small agency, or company). Tell each one the exact same scope. Compare on price, timeline, and what's included in support. Check references. Meet them (video is fine). Then pick the one where you feel confident they'll finish what they promised.
Cheapest is not best. Most expensive is not best. The best one is the person who understands your business, will finish on time, and won't disappear after launch.
