What does a website actually cost in Nagpur?

A basic website in Nagpur costs between ₹15,000 to ₹50,000. A proper one—built for actual business results—costs ₹50,000 to ₹2,00,000. Very few businesses need to spend more than that.

The wide range exists because "website" means completely different things:

  • A WordPress site with a template and basic setup: ₹15,000–₹30,000
  • A custom-built site with your branding, forms, and integration to your business tools: ₹50,000–₹1,00,000
  • An ecommerce store with inventory, payment gateway, and order tracking: ₹80,000–₹1,50,000
  • A complex system (booking platform, SaaS app, membership site): ₹1,50,000+

Most Nagpur businesses fall into the second category. You want something that looks professional, works on mobile, brings customers through Google search or WhatsApp, and integrates with Razorpay or WhatsApp Business API.

What you're paying for

Website design costs break into clear parts. Knowing this stops you overpaying for the wrong things.

Design and visual layout. This is the look—colors, fonts, arrangement of content. A good designer in Nagpur spends 10–20 hours here. Fair cost: ₹10,000–₹30,000 depending on complexity and revisions.

Development and coding. This is making the design actually work—forms that send data, pages that load fast, mobile responsiveness. This takes real skill and time. Fair cost: ₹20,000–₹60,000 depending on how many features you need.

Content writing and setup. Photos, text, testimonials, service descriptions. Many agencies charge for this separately or expect you to provide it. Budget ₹5,000–₹15,000 if you need help here.

Hosting, domain, and SSL. You need somewhere for the website to live online. This costs ₹3,000–₹12,000 per year depending on traffic and reliability. This is separate from design costs but agencies often bundle it.

Search engine setup (SEO basics). Making sure Google can actually find and rank your site. This is different from "SEO services." Basic setup should be included free. Monthly SEO work is extra.

Training and handover. If you're paying someone to build it, you should be able to update it yourself afterward—or at least know what you're paying for. This should take 2–4 hours and cost ₹3,000–₹8,000.

Types of design firms in Nagpur

Freelancers working alone. Cost: ₹20,000–₹60,000 for a basic site. Pros: cheaper, faster, direct communication. Cons: no backup if they disappear, no team to handle problems, limited if you need complex work later. Good fit if you have a simple project and the person has clear past work to show.

Small agencies (3–8 people). Cost: ₹40,000–₹1,50,000. Pros: has a designer, developer, and project manager; can handle changes; more reliable than one person. Cons: slower than freelancers, may be learning as they go. This is the sweet spot for most Nagpur businesses.

Larger agencies or Bangalore/Delhi firms taking Nagpur clients. Cost: ₹1,00,000–₹5,00,000+. Pros: polished process, teams with specialists, can handle enterprise work. Cons: expensive for what most businesses need, slower response, may not understand your local market as well. Only worth it if you're at scale or need very complex integration.

Platforms and DIY site builders (Wix, Squarespace, WordPress.com). Cost: ₹2,000–₹10,000 per year. Pros: very affordable, you own the content, fast to launch. Cons: limited customization, your site looks like many others, harder to integrate with specific Indian tools (Razorpay, GST systems). Not recommended if you're serious about standing out or integrating with business software.

The red flags

These are reasons to walk away from a design firm or freelancer—even if they're cheap.

They won't show you past work. If they say they can't due to "NDA" or their past clients are "confidential," that's dodgy. A real firm has 3–5 client sites they can show you. Check if those sites actually work on mobile and load fast.

The quote has no breakdown. If they just say "₹50,000 for a website" with no detail of what's included, you don't know what you're buying. A real quote lists: number of pages, features (forms, payment, etc.), rounds of revisions, hosting duration, training included.

They promise Google ranking in the quote. If they say your site "will rank on Google" or "guaranteed first page," they're lying. Rankings depend on dozens of factors over months. No one can guarantee it in a contract. Walk away.

They don't ask about your business or goals. If they jump straight to "I'll design something for you" without asking what you do, who your customers are, or what success looks like, they'll build something generic. You want someone who asks questions.

Payment is 100% upfront. Fair payment terms are: 30–50% upfront to start work, remainder when it's done. If they want everything upfront, that's high risk.

Hosting is locked to them forever. Some agencies host your site and make it impossible to move. Your domain, files, and data should be yours. You should be able to move to another host if you want. Confirm this in writing.

What to ask before hiring

Use this checklist when you talk to a design firm or freelancer:

  1. Can you show me 3–5 websites you've built? (Visit them. Do they work? Are they mobile-friendly? Are they quick to load?)
  2. What's included in the price? (Get a detailed breakdown.)
  3. How many rounds of changes are included? (After that, what's the cost per change?)
  4. Who owns the domain and files after launch? (Should be you.)
  5. What's the payment timeline? (Should not be 100% upfront.)
  6. Do you set up Google Search Console and Google Business Profile? (Basic—should be free.)
  7. Will you provide training or documentation so I can update the site myself? (Yes or no. If no, why?)
  8. What happens if the site breaks or there's a problem in month 2? (Get this in writing—free support period, cost after that.)
  9. Can you integrate Razorpay / WhatsApp Business API / [your specific tool]? (Ask about specific tools you use.)
  10. How long will it take? (Should be 4–8 weeks for a typical custom site.)

How to avoid wasting money

Start small. You don't need a ₹3,00,000 website right now. Build a solid ₹50,000–₹1,00,000 site, get customers, then upgrade. Many businesses waste money on features they never use.

Prepare your content in advance. If you go to a designer without your business story, photos, and service descriptions ready, they charge you to write it or you end up with generic text. Do this work first.

Be clear on the goal. Do you want to sell products, collect leads, show your portfolio, or provide information? Different goals mean different designs. Tell the firm upfront. If they don't ask, that's a red flag.

Test on mobile before paying. Ask to see the site on a phone during development. If it's slow or broken on mobile, that's wasted money. Indian users browse mobile-first—this is non-negotiable.

Don't confuse a website with marketing. A website is a tool. It needs traffic to work. Budget separately for: Google Business Profile setup, Google Local Services, Instagram or WhatsApp presence, and ads if you use them. A freelancer can build the site but you need a plan to bring customers to it.

Avoid long-term contracts. If someone wants a 3-year agreement, push back. Fair terms: you pay for the site, then pay month-to-month for hosting. You should be able to leave with your data anytime.

Making the choice

For most Nagpur businesses, a small local agency or a trusted freelancer with clear past work is the right choice. You get reasonable costs (₹50,000–₹1,50,000), local support, and someone who understands how business works in the city.

Interview 2–3 options. Ask the questions above. Check their past work on mobile. Ask for references and actually call one. The cheapest option is rarely the best. The most expensive is rarely needed.

A good website pays for itself in 6–12 months if you use it to bring customers in. Choose wisely.
